New 2024 GMC Sierra Redesign, Engine, MPG

New 2024 GMC Sierra Redesign, Engine, MPG – A full-size vehicle purchase in the United States might be a difficult decision. Regardless of your brand preferences, there are no subpar full-size pickups on the market today. Like the 2024 GMC Sierra, some have fallen behind the top, although not by a wide margin. How is it possible that the Sierra isn’t one of the most popular trucks in the United States, yet it adds to GM’s status as one of the country’s leading truck manufacturers?

The Ram and the all-new Ford F-150, to name just two competitors, have advanced significantly since the fifth-generation Sierra debuted in late 2024. Despite its flaws, the Sierra isn’t a vehicle that lacks merit, with a wide range of engines, including a 3.0-liter diesel inline-six with 277 horsepower and a 4.3-liter gasoline V6. A towing capacity of 11,800 lbs is also helpful, as are three cab types and other innovative innovations designed to make towing more convenient.

For the 2024 GMC Sierra model year, both the 2.7-liter turbo and 3.0-liter turbodiesel variants have improved their towing capability. Compared to the 2.7, the 3.0 now has a towing capacity of 9,200 pounds, an increase of 100 pounds. As part of GMC’s trailering technology, a trailer length indication, a jack-knife alarm, and an improved cargo bed view have also been included.

SLE, Elevation, and SLT vehicles can now have the X31 Off-Road and Protection Package, while Sierra models can now get the 1SA Safety Confidence Package. GMC’s Multipro tailgate, standard on SLE and Elevation models, provides even more convenience. Some new models now come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and there are four new premium exterior colors to choose from.

Interior

The Ram 1500 and the all-new Ford F-150 have shifted the bar for what is considered acceptable in the interior of a pickup truck. There is nothing to be gained by getting out of those vehicles and heading to the Sierra. There are several buttons and a touchscreen interface that seems comically tiny in the central console of such a massive vehicle. Although the quality is subpar, at least the available area is adequate.

Automotive hackers have long justified that cost savings have to come from someplace, and interior quality is an obvious target. If this issue is still relevant, it’s because the Ram 1500 and Ford F150 both retail for the same amount of money while providing higher interior quality and, in some cases, even more quality elsewhere.

Engine

The 4.3-liter V6 in the basic model makes 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque, respectively. Currently, it’s only available in Regular and Crew Cab Sierra trims and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is next in line, producing 310 horsepower and 348 lb-ft of torque. The Sierra, SLE, and Elevation trims have this powerplant. Powered by an eight-speed automatic transmission, it has broad appeal. It’s ideal for making rapid deliveries between cities, but it can also be used as a daily pickup vehicle for a family on a tight budget.

The 5.3-liter V8 is available with or without dynamic fuel management (DMF), and it makes 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque in either configuration. Both entry-level and high-end versions may be fitted with this engine, which has a wide range of uses. This engine is compatible with three different gears. A six-speed automatic is used without DMF, whereas an eight-speed automatic is available with it. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard when the 5.3 V8 is mated to a 4WD powertrain.
