For decades, 2024 GMC Yukon has been the company’s best-selling full-size SUV. Many find the Tahoe bland, while others find the Escalade opulent. For them, the Yukon has just the right mix of elegance and prestige without going over the top.
Our full-featured 2024 Yukon 4WD, AT4 AT4 standard length, with the optional 420 horsepower 6.2-liter EcoTec V8 engine, served as our week-long trial. Among the three available engines, this one is the most powerful, with a maximum output of 277 horsepower, while the other two are turbodiesels and a V8 with 355 horsepower. The AT4 versions don’t have access to the torquey diesel.
2024 GMC Yukon Redesign
Starting with the 2024 model year, the 2024 GMC Yukon will be available with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. The luxury Denali now comes standard with a power-sliding center console that was previously an option on the Connected Infotainment System created with Google. Only the addition of Redwood Metallic to the color pallet has changed the exterior. New for this year’s AT4 model is the 6.2-liter V8 engine as an option. Standard wheels on the entry-level model are 18-inch alloys, but upgradable models have bigger 20-inch wheels.
Red recovery hooks and a high-performance front skid plate may be found on the AT4. The Denali comes standard with a panoramic motorized sunroof, also available on most other trims, including our AT4 model. Satin chrome bodyside moldings and a distinctive grille are also included. The exterior design of the Yukon AT4, in particular is very appealing. The $8,650 AT4 Premium Plus Package includes a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, adaptive air suspension, power-retractable aid stairs with cool LED perimeter lighting, and a Satin Steel Metallic (a $495 option) tester.
Interior
As soon as you step inside the new 2024 GMC Yukon, it’s evident that 2024 GMC Yukon has put a lot of effort into making it a better vehicle than its predecessor and its competitors. As far as third-row seating goes, even adults will be able to fit comfortably. Here, we should note that the sumptuous Denali has been further separated from the rest of its range by a distinctive interior design and extremely high-quality materials. All 2024 versions have a digital gauge cluster, which is impressive.
The Satin Steel exterior contrasts well with the Jet Black leather seats. Dual 12.6-inch color LCD touchscreens fitted to the driver and front passenger seats in the back of our AT4’s rear-seat media system were part of the expensive Premium Plus Package in our AT4. This is a great tool for keeping kids and adults entertained on long car journeys. Overall, the 2024 GMC Yukon inside is roomy, although not all rows are the same. The heated bucket seats in the second row were a big hit with our passengers, who were able to fold them up with the press of a button for an additional $370.
Engine
2024 GMC Yukon has opted for natural aspiration and pure displacement over downsizing and forced induction for the company’s two V8 engines. These are well-known engines that may be found in the Chevrolet Tahoe as well. The smaller 5.3-liter V8 makes 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque, but you have to rev it up to 4,100 rpm to get there. When it comes to acceleration and overtaking at greater speeds, the 6.2-liter V8 produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque.
All 2024 GMC Yukon come standard with a 10-speed automatic gearbox, regardless of engine option. This gearbox performs a better job than the six-speeder used in the previous-generation Yukon at making the most of the smaller V8’s lower output. Unfortunately, the oil burner engine, which would be ideal for the AT4 due to its high torque at low revs, is not available for the AT4.
2024 GMC Yukon Release Date and Price
At the time of writing, the base SLE model of the 2024 GMC Yukon was equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 engine and 2WD and cost $52,100. The SLT has the same powertrain and drivetrain for $58,900. The Duramax diesel engine costs $845 for the SLT and $895 for the SLE when swapped out. Add $3,000 to the cost if you want 4WD. With a base price of $66,600, the AT4 is equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 and standard 4WD. The 6.2-liter engine costs $2,440 more. The top-of-the-line Denali with 2WD costs $70,000, while the 4WD version costs $3,000 more. On the fully-loaded model, the manufacturer doesn’t provide a price difference between the engines that are offered.
