New 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X Interior, AWD, Release Date

New 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X Interior, AWD, Release DateThe GMC Canyon and, presumably, the Chevrolet Colorado will receive all-new underpinnings for 2024. Compared to its bow-tie sibling, the Canyon has always been nearly indistinguishable. Only the Colorado is available in a dirt-throwing ZR2 off-road trim, even though both trucks share powertrains, a smooth ride, and an unimpressive cabin. The tide is about to turn, though. The 2024 GMC Canyon is reportedly receiving a new AT4X trim similar to the ZR2, which will endow it with significantly more off-road capability to better challenge rivals such as the Toyota Tacoma, the Jeep Gladiator, and the Ford Ranger. The Canyon AT4X is predicted to feature the same Multimatic spool-valve dampers, locking front and rear differentials, upgraded suspension, and large Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires as the ZR2. Later this summer, the big-body Canyon is forecast to sling some mud on the wheels.

The 2024 GMC Canyon Crew Cab is a mid-size pickup truck that can be considered the younger sibling of the Sierra in the GMC lineup. It’s an excellent option for those seeking a compact pickup truck under USD 30,000. The Canyon is the more upscale sibling of Colorado because they share a platform manufactured by Chevrolet. GMC offers two Canyon Crew Cab trim levels: Elevation Standard and Elevation. The base is priced at $28,710 and can reach $37,310 for the Elevation trim.

New 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X Redesign

When you look at the 2024 GMC Canyon Crew Cab for the first time, expect a hefty and handsome character that’s very pleasant to the eyes. It goes along with the truck’s rugged demeanor. The overall aesthetic is unchanged, but the headlights and grille have become more menacing. Muscular body lines are on full display in the front fascia, which otherwise has a great body. Even at the base trim, expect elements like 18″ aluminum wheels and all-season Blackwall tires.

The Elevation brings essential features like LED fog lamps, cargo area lamps, heated outside mirrors, and an EZ-Lift lower tailgate with a black handle. In addition, even the entry-level model has halogen projector-beam LED signature headlamps. From the many available aluminum wheels, we recommend either the 17″ Dark Argent Metallic Cast Aluminum wheels or the 18″ Black-Painted Aluminum wheels. The upgraded parts not only make the truck look older, but they also make it more useful.

Interior

Last year, GMC made some subtle aesthetic updates to the Canyon, most notably a new grille design that gives the car a bit more presence. A more striking appearance (AT5) or a more rugged one (AT4) are available (Denali). Base models have 18-inch wheels, its 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires distinguish the AT4 on 17-inch alloy wheels, and the Denali gets 20-inch diamond-cut machined alloy wheels. Daytime running lights, halogen projector-beam headlamps, and signature LED lighting are standard on all models. The door pulls, and mirror adjusters on the base model are black. The top-of-the-line AT4 model features LED cargo box lighting, dark chrome exterior finishes, and bright red recovery hooks. For more effortless tailgate opening and closing, the EZ-Lift design is standard on all but the base trim. This year, the Denali gets access to a new Denali Black Edition package that blacks out the flagship’s wheels and exterior trim, giving it a menacing, stealthy air.

Our AT4 Crew Cab included goodies like 17-inch gloss black aluminum wheels, red tow hooks, a mid-skid plate, a spray-on bed liner, and several dealer-installed features such as AT4 badges, off-road rocker protection, and a black performance exhaust. We think it’s more handsome than the corporate Chevy Colorado, and we love the design. The bed length shown here is 61.7 inches (the standard size), compared to 74 inches (the length of an extended bed). Based on our experience, the standard bed was big enough for most tasks.

Engine

GMC offers three engine options for the Canyon Crew Cab. The base 2.5L inline-4 engine is mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission. In terms of drivetrain, the Elevation Standard only offers a 2WD setup, while the Elevation comes with a 4WD configuration. It has an output of 203 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque. Due to this, the truck can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds and complete a quarter mile in 16.5 seconds. The vehicle can pull up to 3,500 pounds and carry 1,440 pounds. When equipped with the optional 3.6L V6, 8-speed automatic transmission is available. The V6 engine consumes more fuel but produces more horsepower. The V6 powerplant produces 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. The truck can go from 0 to 60 mph in 6.7 seconds thanks to the V6 machine and can complete the quarter mile in 15.2 seconds. It can pull up to 7,600 pounds, which is most of them when properly equipped.

A second engine option, a 2.8L Duramax Turbocharged Diesel Inline-4 producing 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, is exclusive to the Elevation trim. The transmission and base engine both have a nice, responsive feel. The 3.6-liter V6 engine provides instantaneous response to acceleration. The 8-speed gearbox is also very slick. The combination of the V6 engine and all-wheel drive does wonders, not just because of the truck’s impressive towing capacity. Diesel engines have greater towing capacity than gas ones because of their greater torque output and better gas mileage.

The Canyon’s responsive steering is one of its most vital points. We advise upgrading to the more luxurious Elevation version. Because it also comes in a 4WD version, that’s why. The 4WD system has excellent traction on unpaved roads. Even though the steering has no feedback and may make you feel more disconnected, it drives smoothly and responsively on the highway. The rolling of the body is particularly obvious when going uphill or turning. It’s nimble in the city. Off-road suspension settings are stiffer than on-road settings but absorb most bumps. In summary, even though it’s in its genetic makeup to be a pickup truck, the Canyon has a pleasant ride.
